Dwight Lundell

Dwight was born November 23, 1943 in Safford, AZ. He attended the University of Arizona as an undergraduate, after which he was selected to the charter class at UA’s College Of Medicine where he completed general surgery training. Next was a residency in cardiovascular surgery at Yale University. Dwight returned to Arizona and built a successful cardiovascular practice. During his career he performed over 5000 coronary bypass procedures and countless valve, thoracic and vascular operations. Dwight, who does not consider himself a natural athlete, credits the sport of triathlon for an incredible journey. In his view, determination trumps talent; success comes more from persistent effort than anything else. Despite all the difficulties, injuries and pains, he considers himself well compensated for what he has invested in late-life athletics. In Dwight’s estimation, older folks, contrary to popular myths, still have goals and aspirations, things to accomplish, experiences to enjoy.
